Summary: The head of a client special school is looking to plan ahead during this uncertain time. The school which remains open for key workers and vulnerable children will eventually open their doors once again for all the children to return. The ideal Special Needs Teaching assistant will:

  • Have experience working with special needs ( in any capacity)
  • Have strong behaviour management skills
  • Have good communication skills
  • Have a UK driving licence and access to a car ( Desirable)
  • Be Team Teach Trained (Desirable)
  • Have an outgoing personality
  • Be confident
  • Show great resilience
  • Have a passion for helping others

The School: The pupils that attend the school are 3-11 years of age. The children at the school will have a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) Global Delay, ADHD and Asperger’s Syndrome. Some pupils are also non-verbal. The school operates within regular school hours of 8:30-3:30.

The Role: As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will support students with practical help and emotional care. The children you work with will need assisting in and around the classroom and it is important you are a nurturing and caring individual. Some of their needs include autism, communication difficulties, physical disabilities and varying degrees of learning difficulties.  You will be employed by Teaching Personnel, going into the local schools we work with. Currently this school remains open for the vulnerable and the children of key workers. Once the school opens back up in full capacity they will need you more than ever. Rates of Pay and Working Hours: You will receive weekly pay dependent on the roles and experience, usually for a Support Assistant this is between GBP60-GBP70 a day.  With Teaching Personnel, you have the flexibility to pick when you would like to work. This could be on a day to day basis; we would let you know in the morning what school needs you. Longer placements could see you in a school for weeks, such as if a staff member is on maternity leave. There is also the opportunity to roll onto the schools contract permanently if you and the school get on well! You will need a Child and Adult Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one)
