Special Needs Teaching Assistant

SEN Teaching Assistants required in Sturminster Newton, North Dorset

Teaching Personnel are recruiting on behalf of a day community school for children with profound and multiple (PMLD), Severe (SLD), Moderate (MLD) or complex learning difficulties. Some children have additional sensory or physical impairments, speech and language disorders or medical needs; others are statemented as being within the autistic spectrum.

The school provides for 131 children and students between the ages of 2 and 19 years.

The School and College are very well resourced. Amongst many other facilities they offer:

• Resistant materials workshops
• Specialist food technology facilities
• State-of-the-art sensory room

The position of special needs teaching assistant is challenging but rewarding and will require you to work both alongside teachers and other education professionals as well as independently, under teachers' direction, supporting the work of groups of children and individuals. Duties are varied, depending on the age and special needs of the pupils concerned.

If you have experience supporting children or adults with special needs, are a good team player, who is patient, understanding and have the ability to establish a rapport with vulnerable people in a busy and lively setting, this may be the job for you.

The school are happy to consider full time and part time applicants to start ASAP or in September.

The school is not easily accessed by public transport so it is essential you drive and have access to a vehicle.
