Special Educational Needs Learning Support Assistant job Kent

A unique opportunity has come up at a lovely Academy in Swanley. This school provides education for children aged 7 - 19 with a wide range of needs and requirements. This is a full time, long term position which could become a permanent role for the right person.

The school:

The school is located on beautiful grounds in the picturesque countryside of Kent. The school building itself is a wonderful Victorian building with large spacious classrooms and two sensory gardens, full double tennis court and plenty of parking for driving employees. The school has primary and secondary students and also has boarding facilities during the week.

The children:

The school works with students with additional needs across the spectrum of SEN, many students are autistic with classes split into verbal and non verbal. The school also works with children with moderate learning difficulties, some more complex needs and physical disabilities.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience working in SEN, either within a mainstream school or SEN school
  • Understanding of autism and how to work with children with autism
  • Previous experience of using either PECS or Makaton is desirable
  • Recent safeguarding, child protection or Team Teach training is also desirable
  • DBS registered on the Update Service or be willing to complete a new one asap
  • Must be available to start as soon as possible

The role:

If successful, you will be working as a Teaching Assistant; this involves supporting the class teacher in behaviour management, providing 1:1 support for different students in the class, preparing resources and facilitating the delivery of activities, assisting with toileting and changing where necessary and reporting on the progress made by each student.
