Depending on the assignment, tuition will be provided in pupils' homes, educational establishments or alternative learning environments.

Your Role as a Tutor

  • Deliver focused one-to-one teaching sessions based on individual pupil requirements.
  • Help learners improve their understanding of core subjects and achieve their academic targets.
  • Design suitable learning activities and resources to support lesson objectives.
  • Recognise areas where pupils need additional guidance and adapt your teaching accordingly.
  • Encourage engagement, positive behaviour and independent study.
  • Provide appropriate support for pupils with special educational needs.
  • Review progress and keep clear records of teaching sessions.
  • Liaise with families, schools and relevant professionals where necessary.
  • Follow all safeguarding procedures and professional standards.

Areas of Teaching

We are particularly interested in tutors who can support one or more of the following:

  • Primary English, Maths and Reading.
  • Secondary English, Mathematics and Science.
  • GCSE preparation and examination support.
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths.
  • History, Geography and other Humanities.
  • Languages and Computing.
  • SEND and individual learning support.
  • Home tuition and alternative education programmes.

Skills and Qualifications

Applicants should ideally have:

  • At least two years of teaching or tutoring experience in the UK.
  • Previous experience supporting primary, secondary or GCSE learners.
  • Strong knowledge of their chosen teaching subjects.
  • The ability to deliver structured and engaging lessons.
  • Good planning, time-management and organisational skills.
  • Experience managing different learning abilities and challenging behaviours.
  • The ability to travel to assignments across Bedford and surrounding areas.
  • An Enhanced DBS certificate registered with the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

QTS, PGCE or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification is beneficial but not essential.

Supporting Pupils with Additional Needs

Experience working with children and young people with the following needs is highly desirable:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Dyslexia and dyspraxia.
  • Speech, language and communication difficulties.
  • Emotionally Based School Non-Attendance (EBSNA).

  • Flexible assignments to complement your availability.
  • Competitive weekly pay.
  • Opportunities across different learning environments.
  • Scope for regular work and longer-term placements.
  • The opportunity to help pupils overcome barriers and progress in their education.

All pay rates quoted are inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.

TP Tutors is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All educators are subject to safeguarding checks in line with Department for Education (DfE) guidance including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).
