Salary: £25 - £35 per hour
Job Description
This role involves providing specialised tutoring and support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. The SEN Tutor works closely with learners to develop tailored educational plans that address individual learning difficulties and promote academic progress. The position requires the delivery of one-to-one or small group sessions in accordance with current educational standards and best practises, ensuring a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Job Duties
- Assess the individual learning needs of pupils with special educational requirements.
- Plan and deliver engaging, personalised tutoring sessions that support pupils’ academic development.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve pupils’ communication, literacy, numeracy, and social skills.
- Monitor and record pupils’ progress, adapting teaching methods accordingly.
- Collaborate with parents, guardians, and educational professionals to support the learner’s development.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of sessions and pupil development.
- Provide advice and guidance to pupils on managing their learning challenges.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safeguarding and data protection policies.
- Participate in training and professional development to remain current with SEN best practises and legislation.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of Level 3 qualification in Education, Teaching, Special Educational Needs, or a related field.
- Certification in SEN support or a recognised teaching qualification is essential.
Education
- GCSEs in English and Mathematics at grade C/4 or above, or equivalent.
- Further or higher education qualification relevant to SEN or education.
Experience
- Proven experience working with children or young people with diverse educational needs, preferably in a tutoring or educational support capacity.
- Experience of delivering one-to-one or small group teaching sessions.
- Familiarity with SEN frameworks, legislation, and education plans.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of special educational needs and inclusive education principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills tailored to engage learners with diverse needs.
- Ability to adapt teaching techniques to suit individual pupil requirements.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records.
- Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Competence in using educational resources and technology to enhance learning.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, autism spectrum conditions, or speech and language challenges.
- Additional qualifications in counselling, behavioural management, or child psychology.
- First aid certification.
Working Conditions
- The role is temporary and part-time, offering flexible hours to accommodate pupil needs.
- Work may take place in schools, learning centres, or the pupil’s home environment, adhering to safeguarding protocols.
- The position requires travelling within Oxfordshire and potentially nearby areas.
- Work involves sitting or standing for extended periods and may require the use of educational equipment and materials.
- A clear enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is mandatory before commencing employment.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
