SEN Tutor
Job description
We’re currently recruiting experienced, committed tutors in the Faringdon area to support a large secondary school working with pupils who require both onsite and offsite provision.
This is not standard after-school tutoring.
This is structured, professional support for young people who need tailored intervention to remain engaged with their education.
The Setting
We are working closely with a large secondary school whose students require:
- Onsite support within school
- Offsite tuition, including sessions at a pupil’s home
- In some cases, online delivery where appropriate
The pupils are secondary-aged and often present with:
- SEMH needs
- Additional learning needs
- Complex profiles requiring consistency and strong boundaries
- Reduced timetables or alternative provision pathways
Your role will be to provide structured academic support while helping students regulate, re-engage, and build confidence.
Availability
- Minimum 10–15 hours per week
- Sessions typically scheduled between 8:30am–3:30pm
- Monday to Friday availability required
- In-person delivery essential (with some potential for online sessions)
Flexibility is important, but reliability is non-negotiable. These students rely heavily on routine and consistency.
Professional Standards
This role requires high levels of professionalism.
Tutors will be expected to:
- Record and report attendance accurately
- Monitor and document academic progress and engagement
- Provide structured feedback to be shared with school staff and other professionals
- Maintain clear safeguarding awareness and professional boundaries
Your reporting may inform wider school decisions and multi-agency planning attention to detail is crucial.
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome applicants with experience in:
- Mainstream or specialist secondary schools
- Alternative provision
- Tuition settings
- Pastoral, mentoring, or youth-based roles
You should demonstrate:
- Strong behaviour management rooted in empathy
- Experience supporting SEMH or complex needs
- Confidence working independently across different settings
- Professional communication skills
- Resilience and emotional intelligence
Why This Role Matters
For some students, progress looks like completing coursework.
For others, it looks like:
- Attending consistently
- Managing emotions within a session
- Rebuilding trust in education
If you’re based in or around Faringdon and can commit to consistent daytime hours, we’d love to hear from you.
This is tutoring that adapts, supports, and genuinely changes trajectories wherever the learning takes place.
