Job Title: Special Educational Needs Tutor
Salary: £25 - £35 per hour
Job Description
The Special Educational Needs Tutor supports learners with a range of additional needs to achieve their educational goals. The role involves delivering tailored teaching and learning sessions, adapting resources to meet individual requirements, and promoting an inclusive learning environment. The tutor works closely with learners to develop their skills, confidence and independence in line with personalised learning plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver individual or small group tuition sessions focused on learners with special educational needs.
- Assess learners’ educational needs and progress, adapting teaching methods accordingly.
- Develop and implement personalised learning plans and appropriate resources.
- Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to support learner development.
- Maintain accurate records of sessions, learner progress and relevant documentation.
- Collaborate with educational professionals, parents or carers to ensure consistency of support.
- Promote positive behaviour and participation in learning activities.
- Stay informed of current legislation, best practises and developments in special educational needs provision.
- Ensure a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment at all times.
Required Qualifications
- A recognised teaching qualification or a qualification relevant to special educational needs tutoring.
- Clear Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Education
- A minimum of Level 3 qualifications in education, teaching, or a related subject.
- Further training or certification in special educational needs is highly desirable.
Experience
- Proven experience working with learners who have special educational needs.
- Experience in delivering one-to-one or small group tuition.
- Familiarity with educational assessment and planning for learners with additional needs.
Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of a range of special educational needs and disabilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with learners and stakeholders.
- Ability to tailor teaching approaches to individual needs and learning styles.
- Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Patience, empathy and commitment to learner development.
- Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent specialised training.
- Experience with specific educational frameworks or interventions for special educational needs.
- First aid qualification.
Working Conditions
The role is based in educational settings within Greater London and involves part-time hours, typically during term time. The tutor may work in schools, learning centres or community venues. The position requires flexibility to accommodate learners’ timetables and occasional travel within the area. The role demands adherence to safeguarding and health and safety regulations and the ability to manage varied learner needs in a calm and supportive manner.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
