Teaching Assistant

Contracted position – Permanent role at the end

September 2021 start

Teaching Personnel are currently working with a school in St Austell who are seeking a number of Specialist Learning Support Assistants to work full time on a long term position that will se a permanent contract at the end.

The role is Monday – Friday 08:30 – 15:20 with an early finish every Friday to be able to take part in additional training. The position is to work 1:1 with a child that could be either primary or secondary aged and help them in their academic, social and emotional learning. The students within this school all have additional needs such as behavioural, ASC and ADHD and all require a 1:1 or 2:1 TA. You will support with their classroom learning each day but a large part of this role will include learning outside of the classroom and in the community. Day trips to the beach, zoo or anywhere else will happen regularly and activities like swimming or surfing occurs weekly. As a 1:! Support Assistant, this role will see you work as a HLTA and be fully responsible for the pupil you are working with. There are opportunities to grow within this role and regular training such as MAPA and Outdoor Education is provided. This position is a great chance to start a career in education or to further your current one.

Before working alone with a child, you will undergo a two week paid induction, in which you will learn about the school, the pupils, their needs and be given in depth training for this unique position. As there is such a large team, you will get invited to regular team building activities and be offered excellent support from people with a range of experience and backgrounds. This school aims on providing a family like atmosphere for these children and they require people who will fit in and build on this.

To be considered for this role, experience of supporting children, young adults or vulnerable people is highly desired but personal experience and volunteering as well as professional experience is looked for. A Level 2 qualification or above is highly recommended and a relevant qualification to this position is advantageous.

A driving licence is ideal as some places you go to can be tricky to access on public transport, but this isn’t compulsory as there will be drivers on base too.

The roles we have are to start in September and so references and a DBS will need to be in process by day one. If you already have an enhanced Child Only DBS on the Update Service, this can be used and can speed up your registration. We also require a CV with a six year career history and any gaps explained. If you have been out of the country for longer than 6 months, we will need an Overseas Police check, please speak to us about this.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
