SEN Teaching Assistant

Job description

A Southampton secondary school are looking for an SEN teaching assistant to work alongside the teacher in a variety of classes across the secondary curriculum. The school is located just a short walk away from two train stations with easy access to busses. If you have experience in supporting pupils 1:1 or group setting with any form of SEN, in particular ASC, EBD, MLD, SPLD, EAL, PMLD. SEN

Teaching Assistant responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Helping with schoolwork
- Preparing learning materials
- Encouraging children to communicate
- Looking after children's physical needs
- Encouraging pupils to interact with others and engage in activities
- Helping children when they're upset and comforting them

The right candidate for this position will have experience working in an SEN setting or as a support worker, youth club, ex-army, police cadet, care home or other residential setting. An interest in horticulture, cooking, music, drama, art, construction or other hands-on, creative activities are a bonus. All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.
