Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SENTA) to support pupils within a specialist SEN unit at a welcoming primary school in Thornton.

This full-time position is due to commence in September 2026 and will initially run until Christmas 2026, with a strong possibility of being extended through to the end of the Summer Term 2027 for the right candidate.

The Role

As a SENTA, you will work closely with teaching staff and SEN professionals to support pupils with a range of additional needs, which may include:

• Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
• Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
• Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
• Sensory and processing needs

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing tailored one-to-one and small group support.
• Supporting pupils to access learning activities and engage positively in lessons.
• Implementing individual support plans and strategies.
• Encouraging the development of social, emotional and communication skills.
• Assisting with behaviour regulation and emotional wellbeing.
• Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals.
• Promoting a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs.
• A patient, resilient and caring approach.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• The ability to adapt support strategies to meet individual pupil needs.
• A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
• Relevant qualifications in education, childcare or SEND (desirable but not essential).
