SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) - Primary SEN Unit
Thornton, Lancashire
Full-Time | Monday to Friday
Start Date: September 2026
Initial Contract Until Christmas 2026 | Potential Extension Until July 2027

Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SENTA) to support pupils within a specialist SEN unit at a welcoming primary school in Thornton.
This full-time position is due to commence in September 2026 and will initially run until Christmas 2026, with a strong possibility of being extended through to the end of the Summer Term 2027 for the right candidate.

The Role
As a SENTA, you will work closely with teaching staff and SEN professionals to support pupils with a range of additional needs, which may include:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
- Sensory and processing needs
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing tailored one-to-one and small group support.
- Supporting pupils to access learning activities and engage positively in lessons.
- Implementing individual support plans and strategies.
- Encouraging the development of social, emotional and communication skills.
- Assisting with behaviour regulation and emotional wellbeing.
- Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals.
- Promoting a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs.
- A patient, resilient and caring approach.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to adapt support strategies to meet individual pupil needs.
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
- Relevant qualifications in education, childcare or SEND (desirable but not essential).
