Job description

Teaching Assistants – Secondary PRU | Sunderland

We are currently recruiting full-time Teaching Assistants to work within a Secondary PRU in Sunderland, starting after May half term (week commencing 1st June).

This rewarding role is ideal for candidates from backgrounds such as the Armed Forces, security, sports coaching, youth work, or other environments that require resilience, strong communication skills, and the ability to build positive relationships. Previous experience supporting young people with additional needs is beneficial, although not essential.

The Role

  • Supporting students with SEN and SEMH needs both in and out of the classroom
  • Building positive relationships to encourage engagement and confidence
  • Working closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to support student progress
  • Promoting a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment
  • Full-time position, Monday to Friday

Requirements

  • A patient, adaptable, and proactive approach
  • Experience from the Armed Forces or other transferable professional backgrounds welcomed
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one

Pay

£92–£110 per day, depending on experience.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
