Job description
SEN Teaching Assistant – Sunderland
Are you a proactive and resilient individual who isn’t afraid to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in? We’re looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school community in Sunderland and make a real difference in the lives of young people.
The Role
You will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide tailored support for pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN). This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same—you’ll need to think on your feet, adapt quickly, and bring energy and commitment every day.

- Assist in delivering engaging, inclusive lessons
- Provide one-to-one and small group support
- Help manage behaviour in a positive and proactive manner
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and parents
- Contribute to a safe, supportive, and stimulating learning environment
What We’re Looking For
- A proactive attitude and willingness to take initiative
- Resilience and the ability to stay calm under pressure
- A “get stuck in” mindset—no task too big or small
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
- Previous SEN or school experience is desirable but not essential
What We Offer
- A welcoming and supportive school environment
- Opportunities for training and professional development
- The chance to make a meaningful impact every day
