Job Advert – Behaviour Support / Mentor (PRU) – Sunderland

A Pupil Referral Unit in Sunderland is looking to recruit a male Behaviour Support Mentor to join our dedicated team supporting young people with social, emotional, and behavioural needs.

We are particularly interested in candidates with a background in sport, coaching, or physical activity, who can use sport and structured activities to build positive relationships, encourage engagement, and support students in developing confidence, resilience, and self-discipline.

The role will involve working closely with pupils both in and out of the classroom, helping them regulate behaviour, stay engaged with learning, and develop positive routines. You will be part of a supportive staff team committed to improving outcomes for students who require additional support.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a background in sport, coaching, or physical education

  • Be confident working with young people with behavioural needs

  • Be patient, resilient, and able to build strong relationships

  • Have experience working in schools, youth work, mentoring, or sports coaching (desirable)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
