SEN Teaching Assistant - SEMH Specialist (Social, emotional and mental health)

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant with expertise in supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. As a valued member of our inclusive educational community, you will play a vital role in providing individualized support to help SEMH students thrive academically and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities:

• Offer emotional and behavioral support, creating a safe and nurturing environment where students can express themselves.

• Implement effective behavior management strategies to de-escalate situations and promote positive behavior.

• Provide academic support, including adapting materials and offering extra assistance to ensure students can access the curriculum.

• Foster inclusion by facilitating SEMH students' participation in mainstream classes and activities, supporting their social interactions and peer relationships.

• Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior, and the effectiveness of interventions.

• Communicate effectively with students, teachers, parents, and other support staff to ensure a cohesive approach to each student's needs.

• Stay current with best practices in SEN and SEMH support through ongoing training and professional development.

• Advocate for SEMH students' needs within the school and with external agencies when necessary.

Qualifications:

• Experience working with SEMH students in a school or educational setting.

• Knowledge of various SEMH conditions and interventions.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to the well-being of SEMH students.

• Ability to handle crisis situations and provide immediate support when needed.

• Respect for the privacy and confidentiality of students and their families.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
