1:1 Autism Support Teaching Assistant (Full-Time)

Location: Irlam, Greater Manchester
Start Date: November 2026
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Irlam to recruit a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) on a full-time basis.

This rewarding role offers the opportunity to provide personalised support, helping a child access learning, develop communication and social skills, build confidence, and achieve their individual targets within a supportive school environment.

The Role

As a 1:1 Autism Support Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a pupil throughout the school day, providing tailored support to meet their individual educational and developmental needs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support within the classroom and during wider school activities
  • Supporting engagement, participation, and communication during lessons
  • Implementing individual learning strategies and support plans
  • Encouraging the development of social skills, confidence, and independence
  • Supporting emotional regulation and helping manage transitions throughout the school day
  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to monitor progress and adapt support where needed
  • Promoting positive behaviour and celebrating achievements
  • Building a positive and supportive relationship with the pupil and their family
  • Contributing to a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment

About You

We are looking for a patient, caring, and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with children with Autism or other Special Educational Needs
  • Previous experience within a school, childcare, or support-based setting
  • A calm, adaptable, and nurturing approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to remain positive and resilient when faced with challenges
  • A genuine commitment to supporting children to achieve their potential
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
  • A Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant SEN training (desirable but not essential)
  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
