Role: SEN Teaching Assistant

Sector: Primary

Classroom: Special Educational Resource Base

Location: Cardiff (CF14)

Pay: £82.81 per day inclusive of 12.07% holiday pay

Start date: 8th April 2024

Teaching Personnel are working with a partnership client who are currently looking to employ an SEN specialist to assist in a new Resource Base within a Primary School in the CF14 area.  The suitable applicant will be comfortable supporting children aged 3-6 years old who have severe and complex needs and will be expected to assist in personal care duties, including nappy changing.

Currently, there are 13 children attending the base with one very experienced SEN teacher and support staff currently working within the Base. The funding provided by the Local Authority allows for the school to employ a full time Teaching Assistant to work Monday-Friday for the academic year, following a review after the first term.

The nature of the needs will vary from autism, global delay and physical difficulties and so Teaching Personnel will be looking to attract suitable educatos with previous SEN experience, whether its within the education or care sector, or personal experience!

Due to the nature of the pupils within the Special Needs Resource Base, the school will be looking for someone who:

-          Is nurturing, calm and patient

-          Can demonstrate resilience and not be phased by a sudden change in behaviour

-          Uses their own initiative and to work independently with minimal guidance from the class teacher

-          Can help build an inclusive environment for all

-          Isn’t shy to support with personal care

-          Is looking to make a valuable difference to the lives of the pupils within the base

-          Is looking for a full time, long term role

Desirable, (but not essential):

-          Makaton training

The school

Currently the school has over 500 pupils on role including a full capacity Nursery class and 3x SEN Resource Base. Vetting

Support will be provided in regards to the vetting requirements, however to be considered for the role, Teaching Personnel will need to ensure that the suitable applicant has:

-          An Enhanced CHILD ONLY DBS (On the Update Service)

-          Registered with the Education Workforce Council as a School Learning Support Worker

-          A 10 year career history with 2 years of suitable references

-          A Right to Work document sighted by Teaching Personnel in person
