If you have the type of personality that is caring and passionate about the well-being of others, have you considered working as a school disability support assistant?

As a disability support assistant you will work with children between the ages of 3 to 11, who are diagnosed with learning difficulties and physical disabilities, meaning they require consistent support.

You may work 1:1 with a child who has more severe disability or with small groups of children with higher functioning disability.
Your role is to support them in all areas of their daily routine, throughout each class including activity inclusion, at break and meal times preparing and feeding snacks and meals (whilst following dietary requirements), and with their personal care needs (assistance with toileting).

Alongside this routine, you will need to support the student in communication as many may have difficulty with speech and language. You’ll also support their emotional and physical well-being, ensuring they are safe, comfortable and well to the best of your ability. This can include behaviour management – due to the frustrations caused by disability in terms of communication and ability, this can often cause aggravated responses and outbursts which need to be met with calm and reassuring but straightforward de-escalation.

The school curriculums promote sensory and holistic learning which champions inclusion for all and strives to provide opportunity for life skills, independence and confidence. Being part of delivering this experience can be a very rewarding opportunity for anyone involved.
If you’ve got experience in support work, special needs or with children you have a guaranteed head-start however all applications will be considered!
Teaching Personnel can provide access to a number of training courses for registered candidates to broaden your experience and heighten your potential for this type of role.

If you’re interested, send over your CV and one of our consultants will give you a call!

Please be aware that if application is successful, strict vetting procedures must be met before you have access to school roles.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see teachingpersonnel.com/faqs for details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.

Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
