Job description

THE ROLE
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with a variety of additional learning needs including ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, sensory impairments and social, emotional and mental health challenges. Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals, you will help create a positive, inclusive and stimulating classroom environment that enables all learners to access the curriculum and reach their full potential.

This role is perfect for someone who has a genuine passion for working with children, demonstrates empathy and resilience, and understands the importance of patience and consistency in helping students progress. You will support pupils both in class and through targeted interventions, encouraging independence, building confidence and fostering a love of learning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide individual and small group support to pupils with SEN across KS1, KS2 or KS3 depending on setting.

  • Assist teachers in planning, preparing and adapting learning materials.

  • Implement strategies and interventions as guided by the SENCO and class teachers.

  • Support students with social, emotional and behavioural needs to engage positively with learning.

  • Monitor and record pupil progress and contribute to review meetings.

  • Promote inclusion and equality, ensuring all learners feel safe, respected and valued.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents and external professionals.

  • Uphold the school’s safeguarding, behaviour and equality policies at all times.

ABOUT YOU

  • Experience supporting children with special educational needs in a school or similar setting.

  • A patient, empathetic and adaptable approach to supporting learning.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships.

  • A genuine passion for helping students overcome barriers and achieve success.

  • Ability to follow guidance from teachers and SEN professionals while using initiative to respond to pupil needs.

  • Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning (desirable but not essential).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
