Teaching Personnel are seeking a Teaching Assistant for a full-time, fixed term contract (until April 2020) in a special school in Bradford.
The school is situated in Heaton, catering for pupils aged 3 to 19 years with communication and interaction needs including autism and complex learning needs along with associated difficulties such as sensory processing needs. The school also runs a Designated Specialist Provision (DSP) for Early Years pupils to support their continued placement in mainstream settings. All pupils have or are under assessment for an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) which is reviewed annually. Ongoing and rigorous assessment ensures that teaching is adapted and matched to the pupils' needs.
The school is purpose built and provides a bespoke, low arousal environment with flexible use of spaces. The school benefits from specialist facilities such as Rebound rooms, sensory rooms, aromatherapy rooms, quiet rooms and outdoor learning areas from every classroom. Pupils are taught in small classes and grouped mainly for age but also taking into account their individual needs. There is a high staff to pupil ratio in every class. The school uses a range of interventions supported by a multi professional team employed or commissioned by the school. Child centred planning and careful assessment ensures the curriculum is engaging and personalised to support the best possible progress for all pupils.
Our client are looking to appoint a Teaching Assistant on a full-time basis, to provide cover for a maternity leave. You will be required for a minimum of 6 months, although there may be an opportunity to apply for a permanent role within school following this period.
As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will be required to:
- Plan and supervise learning activities, including structured core subject tasks
- Support children to develop language skills
- Support pupils both in and outside of the classroom, and during lunch and break times (this will include support with feeding and with personal care)
- Accompanying staff and pupils on trips and school visits
- Assisting children during therapy sessions
- Recognising signs of distress in children and offering reassurance
- Attending to pupils' physical needs
- Completing and maintaining daily records
We are ideally seeking an individual with experience within a specialist setting, although applications will be welcomed from those with a background working in health or social care environments, as well as those with qualifications in Health and Social Care, Child Care, Youth Work, Speech and Language Therapy and/or Educational Psychology. You will hold a valid Team Teach certificate or be willing to undertake training at the earliest opportunity.
To apply for this role, please use the application links, attaching a copy of your up-to-date CV. Teaching Personnel is the UK's leading education recruitment agency.
