SEN(D) Teaching Assistant – PRU Setting

A SEN / PRU Primary and Secondary School in Yeovil is seeking a dedicated, compassionate and resilient SEN(D) Teaching Assistant to join their team and support pupils with complex educational and behavioural needs.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support classroom teachers in delivering high‑quality education and pastoral care to pupils aged 7–16 years across KS2, KS3 and KS4. This role is based within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), supporting learners who may present with a range of SEN and behavioural challenges, including:
- Communication and interaction needs
- Cognition and learning difficulties
- Social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH)
- Sensory or physical needs
- General behavioural difficulties
The school provides specialist education for children and young people who are unable to attend mainstream settings. This includes pupils at risk of exclusion, those who have been permanently excluded, and learners experiencing significant mental health challenges.

Who We Are Looking For
The successful candidate will:
- Be comfortable working within a PRU (Pupil Referral Unit) setting
- Be a caring, patient and resilient individual with a compassionate approach
- Have SEN(D) experience, either within or outside of an educational setting
- Be able to work collaboratively with teachers and wider support staff
- Demonstrate an understanding of positive behaviour support strategies
- Be confident in de‑escalating challenging situations calmly and safely
Working Hours & Benefits
- Full‑time
- Monday – Friday: 08:30 – 16:30
- Term‑time only
- 12.07% holiday pay

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
