  • use special equipment and facilities, such as audio-visual materials and computers to stimulate interest in learning
  • collaborate with the teaching assistant to define appropriate activities for the pupils in relation to the curriculum
  • assess young adults who have long or short-term learning difficulties and work with colleagues to identify individual pupil's special needs
  • work with the academic manager and other senior members of the school to ensure that the requirements of the Equality Act (2010) are met in terms of reasonable adjustments and access arrangements
  • liaise with other professionals, such as social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and educational psychologists
  • work closely with parents and guardians to ensure the best care for their child
  • organise learning outside the classroom in activities such as community visits, school outings or sporting events
  • assist with pupil's personal care/medical needs
  • carry out administrative tasks, including updating and maintaining records of pupil's progress
  • attend statutory annual reviews or other related meetings, such as Looked After Child (LAC) reviews, regarding students with SEN, which may involve reviewing Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans
  • manage the behaviour of learners.
  • Recognised teaching qualifications are essential for successful application
  • Relevant experience desirable but not essential
  • Knowledge of Makaton desirable but not essential
  • Experience with handling challenging learners desirable but not essential
  • The best candidate will be adaptable and used to working in a team.

If you feel you have any of the skills shown above please feel free to get in touch with Matt our SEN specialist, we would love to hear from you!
