A Primary school in Castleford (WF10) are looking for a full-time SEN Support Assistant to start in September for a 1 year contact. If you are experienced in supporting SEN children of primary school age and can travel to Castleford, then this could be the job for you!
The school want someone with experience of 1:1 care in any capacity, as this role requires support for for a child with complex needs who is moving up to Year 6 who needs help sustained support throughout the day both in and out of class. The student can be at times both physically and verbally abusive so the ideal candidate would be used to handling these kinds of situations. Any qualification such as Team Teach would be extremely useful for this role as it would exhibit strong behaviour management and the ability to de-escalate situations where the child is angry.
The role is until the end of the academic year, as this child will need an adult accompanying them full time until he transitions to a Secondary school provision next year. Experience in dealing with SEN children is an absolute necessity for this role. The role also requires planning with the class teacher the work that the child will do throughout the term, as well as keeping track of their progress.
Preference for this role:
• Experience with SEN children – particularly complex needs (non-verbal and Autism)
• Confident in 1:1 support
• Team Teach trained
• Good behaviour management
• Experience in SEN schools or care
This role is full-time, until the end of the academic year, with a competitive salary.
