Teaching Personnel are the UK's leading Education Recruitment agency, and we are recruiting for Teaching Assistants to work in Special Education Needs schools in the Portsmouth area.
We work with various SEN schools through all Key Stages, and the schools cater for a wide range of pupils with varying levels of Special Needs from Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties, as well as Physical Difficulties and Speech and Language Difficulties.
Essential Criteria for the Ideal Candidate:
- Previous experience of working with children
- GCSEs (A* to C) in English and mathematics
Desirable Additional Qualifications and Experience:
- Early Childhood Studies / Childhood Studies
- Foundation Degrees in Education
- Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
- Support Work in Schools
- Special Educational Needs
- Child Development
- Childcare and Education
- Early Years
- Childcare & Early Years
- Language / Speech Therapy
- Working in Nursery or education setting
- Experience of working with Special Education Needs to include Autism, Moderate Learning Difficulties, Physical Difficulties
- Experience volunteering within education or working with children
Skills required:
- The ability to build good relationships with children, teachers and parents
- The ability to cope with challenging behaviour
- A strong regard for pupil safety and well-being
- A positive approach to working with children and the ability to motivate, inspire and build rapport
- Respect for diversity as you will be working with pupils from a range of backgrounds
- Excellent team working ability as you'll be working with other support staff, classroom teachers and other professionals, such as educational psychologists, speech and language therapists and social workers, parents, careers and external agencies
- The ability to work flexibly and the ability to support in a variety of situations
Teaching Personnel receive requirements for both Day to Day supply as well as Long Term placements, so there is a lot of flexibility to suit you and your availability. Many of the schools are also happy to have candidates for a free trial day in order to see how you get on, and we also offer training through our CPD Academy.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
