SEMH Teaching Assistant – Guardian Pathway (Full-Time)
Location: Multi-Site School – Based at Guardian Pathway Campus

A specialist provision supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs is seeking a dedicated and experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team full-time. The successful candidate will be based at the campus delivering the Guardian Pathway, one of three sites that form this supportive and dynamic school.

Students attending the Guardian Pathway have faced significant challenges in mainstream education and have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) in place. Many of them have experienced trauma, disrupted learning, and present with behaviours that require a thoughtful, informed, and consistent approach.

The ideal candidate will bring experience from similar settings, a solid understanding of trauma-informed practice, and a calm, empathetic manner when supporting students with challenging behaviour. They will play a vital role in helping young people re-engage with education in a safe and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs.

  • Assist in creating a stable and supportive learning environment within the Guardian Pathway.

  • Use trauma-informed approaches to build trust and positive relationships with students.

  • Help implement individual behaviour and support plans in line with EHCPs.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and the wider team to support each student’s academic and emotional development.

  • Remain adaptable and responsive to students’ individual needs throughout the day.

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs or in alternative education settings.

  • Familiarity with trauma-informed approaches and strategies to support emotional regulation.

  • Confidence in managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour.

  • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

  • Full-time availability and willingness to be part of a consistent, reliable support team.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
