Job description

Teaching Assistant – SEMH Alternative Provision (Secondary)
Location: Worthing
Start Date: ASAP / Flexible
Contract: Full-time (Term-time only)

We are currently recruiting for a resilient and committed Teaching Assistant to join a specialist alternative provision in Worthing, supporting secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This setting works with students who have found mainstream education challenging and require a more structured, supportive environment. The role is ideal for someone who can build strong relationships, remain calm under pressure, and positively support students both academically and emotionally.

The Role:

  • Support students in the classroom and on a 1:1 or small group basis
  • Assist the teacher in delivering engaging, differentiated lessons
  • Build positive and consistent relationships with students
  • Support behaviour management in line with the school’s approach
  • Encourage engagement, confidence, and emotional development

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience working with young people, ideally secondary age
  • Have experience with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour (or a strong willingness to learn)
  • Be calm, patient, and resilient
  • Be confident managing behaviour and setting clear boundaries
  • Be a positive role model with strong communication skills

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
