Teaching Assistant (SEMH)
Job description
Teaching Assistant – Make a Real Difference Every Day (SEMH School)
Worthing & Surrounding Areas
Not all classroom roles are the same—and this one really matters.
We’re looking for a compassionate, resilient, and genuinely caring Teaching Assistant to support children in an SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) setting. This isn’t just about education—it’s about connection, patience, and helping young people rebuild confidence in themselves and their future.
If you’re someone who sees behaviour as communication, who can stay calm when things feel challenging, and who wants to be part of a team that changes lives… this could be exactly what you’re looking for.
What makes this role different?
You won’t just be supporting learning—you’ll be helping pupils feel safe, understood, and capable again. Every day is varied, meaningful, and impactful.
The Role:
- Supporting pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 or small group basis
- Helping to create a calm, structured, and positive learning environment
- Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils
- Supporting emotional regulation and behaviour in a nurturing way
- Working closely with teachers and pastoral teams
The Details:
- Monday to Friday
- 8:30am – 3:30pm
- School hours only – no evenings or weekends
- Term time only
- Half terms and summer holidays off
Where you’ll work:
- Primarily based in the Worthing area
- Opportunities to work across a range of schools in different locations if desired
What we’re looking for:
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Experience with children or young people (preferred but not essential)
- A genuine passion for supporting those who need it most
- Resilience and a positive mindset
Why join us?
- A role where you can see the difference you make every single day
- Supportive school environments and teams
- Consistent, family-friendly hours
- A chance to build experience in a rewarding and growing sector
This isn’t just a job—it’s an opportunity to be the person a child remembers for helping them turn things around.
If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
