- Experienced SEMH support worker needed to start ASAP
- Welcome individuals from a military, care and mental health background
- Team Teach qualification is desirable but not essential
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a teaching assistant to offer support to pupils at a school in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. The students have SEMH (Social Emotional Mental Health) needs. Due to having SEMH, the pupils find it difficult to pay attention in class and struggle with their behavior. The role would be extremely challenging and will demand a lot of resilience.
Your role as a teaching assistant will be solely for the direct support of the children within their educational setting. You will provide continuous provision to the pupils by helping them stay focused in class, be persistent with your behaviour management strategies, simplifying and breaking down instructions when needed.
The successful candidate must be able to remain patient and calm when the pupil is feeling frustrated and shows bad behaviour. The pupil’s social skills are relevantly poor meaning that it is important you can help enhance their communication skills and integrate them into the class. Some pupils are currently going through some personal home issues, so the school is looking for a candidate who can be a positive role model and wants to offer the pupils their full support.
We welcome individuals from a military back ground as well as mental health workers and residential support staff.
A Team-Teach qualification or relevant qualification (e.g. MAPA) are highly desirable but not essential. Teaching Personnel also offer a range of CPD courses including Team-Teach, Introduction to Autism and Moving and Handling and we are partnered with Leeds Trinity University who support us with upskilling all our candidates.
If you feel you would be the right fit for this position then we would love to hear from you, please contact Jade Halidu on 0113 224 0234 or email on jade.halidu@teachingpersonnel.com
