Behaviour Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision
Location: Lancing
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm, term-time only
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
We are looking for a compassionate, resilient and proactive Behaviour Teaching Assistant to join our supportive Alternative Provision setting in Lancing. This is a rewarding opportunity to support young people who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education and need additional guidance, structure and encouragement to thrive both academically and emotionally.
The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to support students with social, emotional and behavioural needs, helping to create a safe, positive and engaging learning environment where every student feels valued and understood.
Key Responsibilities
- Support students both in and out of the classroom to promote positive behaviour and engagement in learning
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may display challenging behaviour or struggle with emotional regulation
- Assist teachers in delivering tailored learning activities and behaviour support strategies
- Help de-escalate situations calmly and effectively using restorative and trauma-informed approaches
- Encourage students’ confidence, independence and social development
- Work collaboratively with staff, parents/carers and external professionals to support student progress
- Monitor and record behaviour, wellbeing and engagement where required
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience working with children or young people with behavioural, SEMH or additional needs
- A calm, patient and consistent approach
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to remain resilient in challenging situations
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people to succeed
- Previous experience in education, youth work, care or alternative provision is desirable but not essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
