SEMH Teaching Assistant
Job description
Make a Lasting Impact Every Day
Are you passionate about supporting children and young people who face social, emotional, and mental health challenges?
We are looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and forward-thinking school environment.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with pupils aged 3 to 18 across both primary and secondary settings, helping them thrive academically and personally.
This role is ideal for someone who wants to make a genuine difference in education. You’ll be part of a team that values creativity, resilience, and inclusion, ensuring every child receives the support they need to succeed.
About the Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in creating a positive and engaging learning environment.
You’ll work closely with teachers to deliver tailored support that meets the individual needs of each pupil. From assisting with classroom activities to encouraging confidence and independence, your contribution will help shape brighter futures.
Your day will involve supporting pupils in small groups or on a one-to-one basis, helping them overcome barriers to learning and develop essential skills.
You’ll also assist with lesson preparation, classroom organisation, and behaviour management, ensuring every child feels safe and supported.
This setting provides a nurturing and structured approach to education, focusing on emotional wellbeing alongside academic achievement.
You’ll be working with pupils who may experience anxiety, low confidence, or attachment difficulties, so patience and empathy are key.
What We’re Looking For
To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
- A minimum of six months of childcare experience, ideally supporting children with additional needs
- A proactive, patient, and adaptable approach to working with young learners
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A genuine passion for helping children achieve their potential
Experience in SEMH support is highly desirable, as you’ll be working with pupils who require additional guidance and encouragement.
