SEMH Teacher

We are currently looking for a Full Qualified Teacher, who is either experienced or a specialist working with students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties.

Initially the school will be looking for someone on a temporary basis and depending on performance there is an opportunity to move on a to a permanent contract.

The School

A DfE registered independent school, based in Horsham, which caters for boys and girls with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties, between the ages of 7-18 years of age. Most recently, the school have been graded as “Good” by OFSTED.

The Role

  • To deliver targeted interventions; one to one or in small groups to students with SEMH
  • To mentor pupils with behavioural, social and emotional needs (SEMH)
  • To work with teacher in-charge of SEMH provisions to assess the needs of individual pupil with SEMH
  • To work with teacher in-charge of SEMH provisions to differentiate and resource lessons that ensure that effective learning takes place for all pupils.
  • To work with the teacher in-charge of SEMH provisions to develop one page profiles, personalised learning plans and pastoral support plans.
  • To ensure that all pupils make progress during the lesson
  • To support pupils in the acquisition and development of learning dispositions and positive character traits
  • To implement that school behaviour policy and ensure that it is visible to the children.
  • To deliver targeted interventions; one to one or in small groups to pupils.
  • To support the teacher in-charge of SEMH provisions with the mentoring of pupil in the provision.

The Candidate

  • Fully Qualified Teacher Status
  • Experience of teaching pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties (not essential)
  • Experience of managing complex and difficult behaviours and mental health issues (not essential)
  • Experience of dealing with challenging and sensitive situations
  • Understanding of the theory and practice of providing effectively for the individual needs of all children
  • Knowledge and understanding of the SEN Code of Conduct and its practical application strategies for meeting the SEN of students in a mixed ability classroom
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
