SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full Time

Location: Bolton, Greater Manchester 
Contract: Full time, Monday to Friday, long-term

We are currently working with a specialist SEMH provision in Bolton who are looking to appoint a full-time Teaching Assistant to join their team after the Easter break.

This setting supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom require additional support with behaviour, engagement and emotional regulation. The school provides a structured and supportive environment where consistency and strong relationships are key to pupil success.

The Role

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils both inside and outside of the classroom. You will be working closely with individuals who may display challenging behaviour, helping them to engage with learning and develop positive coping strategies.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs
  • Supporting behaviour management and implementing consistent strategies
  • Assisting pupils in accessing learning and staying engaged in lessons
  • De-escalating situations and supporting emotional regulation
  • Acting as a positive role model and building strong relationships
  • Supporting pupils during transitions and less structured parts of the day
  • Working closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have experience working with SEMH, behaviour or challenging pupils
  • Be confident, calm and consistent in your approach
  • Have strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Be resilient and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Be committed to working full time, Monday to Friday

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
