Job description

We are seeking a committed and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to join our dedicated team at an 11–16 Pupil Referral Unit in Salford. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of young people who face social, emotional and behavioural challenges and require additional support to re-engage with education.

Working closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams and external agencies, you will help create a safe, structured and supportive environment where pupils can develop positive behaviours, emotional regulation and engagement with learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted 1:1 and small group behaviour support to pupils
  • Support pupils to manage challenging behaviour and emotions positively
  • Implement behaviour support plans and individual strategies
  • Help maintain a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment
  • Build positive, professional relationships with pupils and staff
  • Support pupils during lessons, interventions and unstructured times
  • Accurately record incidents, progress and behaviour outcomes
  • Uphold safeguarding and school policies at all times

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour or SEND
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to de-escalate behaviour and remain composed under pressure
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
  • An understanding of trauma-informed or restorative approaches (desirable)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
