Do you have the patience, empathy, and energy to support secondary pupils with SEMH needs such as anxiety, low self-esteem, attachment difficulties, behavioural challenges, trauma-related needs, emotional regulation difficulties, and more? We’re working with an inspiring SEMH secondary school in the Salford area looking for an Intervention Mentor to join their team full-time.

What You’ll Be Doing

As an Intervention Mentor, you’ll play a key role in helping pupils succeed both emotionally and academically. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering 1:1 and small‑group interventions focusing on emotional regulation, behaviour, engagement, and confidence.
  • Supporting pupils with barriers to learning—helping them re-engage with school life and routines.
  • Building trusting, positive relationships with students who may have experienced difficulty in or outside of school.
  • Implementing strategies based on SEMH best practice (training provided!).
  • Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams, SENCOs, and external professionals.
  • Encouraging a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where every pupil feels valued.
  • Tracking and reporting progress to ensure interventions are effective and meaningful.

What We’re Looking For

  • A calm, resilient, and patient personality.
  • Ability to build rapport with young people who may present challenging behaviours.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people grow emotionally and academically.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to learn strategies for supporting SEMH needs.
  • Experience in youth work, mentoring, care, sports coaching, mental health support, or similar.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
