Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated and resilient 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within a Manchester-based secondary school. Students you will support may present with a range of needs including anxiety, low self-esteem, challenging behaviours, emotional regulation difficulties, trauma-related behaviours, and attachment needs. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about making a long-term impact on young people who require additional guidance, security, and encouragement.


The Role

As a 1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide tailored one-to-one support to a student with SEMH needs, helping them engage positively in lessons.
  • Build a trusting, consistent relationship that promotes emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
  • Support academic progress by breaking down work, adapting materials, and offering encouragement.
  • Use de-escalation techniques and provide calm, supportive responses during moments of crisis.
  • Assist the class teacher with lesson delivery and behaviour management.
  • Encourage positive social interactions and help the student develop resilience and independence.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Experience working with young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, or additional learning needs (formal or informal).
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to form positive, supportive relationships.
  • Patience, resilience, and a calm, empathetic approach at all times.
  • Ability to implement behaviour management strategies confidently.
  • Full availability Monday–Friday, during school hours.
  • A Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
