SEMH Learning Support Assistants

A specialist secondary provision in Burnley is looking for two learning support assistants.

The roles

As a learning support assistant working with young people with SEMH (Social, emotional, and mental health) additional needs you will be required to follow EHC plans whilst supporting the class teacher in general classroom duties. As the young people require additional support for SEMH difficulties they can display challenging behaviour, so you will need to be able to work in high pressure situations whilst maintaining a calm and professional manner throughout, always putting the needs of the pupil first. You will need to be able to travel to Burnley and be available on a full-time basis Monday- Friday.

The school

The school caters for young people, 10-19 with EHC Plans for Social, Emotional and Mental Health, Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Specific Learning Difficulties. The school is a unique, independent, forward thinking, student lead SEMH Special Needs Day School that always responds to individual needs through a nurturing and therapeutic environment to provide a positive, supportive experience for their students.

The school is an accredited SEMH specialist school and provides its pupils with many different opportunities for growth and development, from its high-quality interventions to its high quality teaching and learning provided by their teachers and support staff. The school follows the National Curriculum subjects at Key Stage 2, 3,4 and 5. All teaching and learning is differentiated to optimise individual need.

  • Monday – Friday, full-time hours (8.00am-3.30pm)
  • Competitive rates of hourly pay £11.85 - £13.30
  • Working with young adults aged 10-19 years with SEMH, challenging behavioural additional needs
  • Start date: ASAP

Within this role, you will work closely with the class teachers who are friendly and well liked and the School’s SENCO who is approachable, supportive, and experienced in the role. The role is set to commence as soon as possible, ideally after the Easter break depending on the successful applicant’s availability. This will be on an initially temporary basis until the end of the Summer term with the view for the right candidate to be made permanent.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
