Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Secondary SEMH PRU (Salford)

Full Time | Long-Term | Immediate Start

Teaching Personnel are seeking a committed and confident Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist Secondary SEMH Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in the Salford area.
This setting supports young people with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, such as Anxiety and school refusal, challenging behaviour, Emotional dysregulation, Trauma related behaviours and Low self-esteem and attachment needs.

⭐ Key Responsibilities                                      

As an HLTA in this PRU, you will:

  • Deliver small‑group and 1:1 learning interventions across KS3 and KS4
  • Cover lessons in the absence of a teacher
  • Support behaviour regulation using de‑escalation and relationship‑based approaches
  • Assist in creating personalised learning plans
  • Work closely with the SENCo, pastoral team, and external agencies
  • Promote positive routines, engagement, and resilience in learners
  • Contribute to a safe, structured, and nurturing environment

⭐ Requirements

To be successful in this position, you must have:

  • HLTA qualification or equivalent relevant experience
  • Previous experience supporting students with SEMH needs (PRU, alternative provision, SEN school, or mainstream SEMH experience welcomed)
  • Confidence managing behaviour using restorative and trauma‑informed approaches
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A child‑only Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
  • Full-time availability Monday–Friday during term time
