Teaching Personnel are recruiting a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support a specialist secondary school in the Salford area. This full-time position is ideal for someone passionate about helping young people with a wide range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), sensory processing difficulties, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and speech, language and communication needs.

The school provides a nurturing, structured and child-centred environment, and we are seeking a compassionate TA who can offer consistent support, patience and flexibility.


The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils with ASC, sensory needs, SLD, PMLD and communication difficulties throughout the school day.
  • Assist with personal care, including toileting, feeding, changing and mobility support – this is a key part of the role.
  • Deliver tailored 1:1 and small-group support based on individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Use a range of communication tools (such as PECS, visuals or simplified language) to help pupils access learning.
  • Implement sensory regulation strategies and assist pupils in managing emotional or physical needs.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and other support staff to create a safe, positive and engaging learning environment.
  • Support pupils during transitions, break times and off-site activities where required.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN (school, care or community settings all considered).
  • Confidence and willingness to support pupils with personal care needs.
  • A current Enhanced Child & Adult Workforce DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply through Teaching Personnel).
  • Patience, resilience and a genuine interest in supporting pupils with complex needs.
  • Strong communication skills and a calm, supportive approach.
