SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: Salford

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support in a SEMH secondary school in the Salford area where you will be working with children with ASC (autism spectrum condition), Trauma – related and attachment needs, behavioural challenges and social, emotional and mental health difficulties.


About the Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, your role will involve:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual needs
  • Helping students regulate their emotions using de‑escalation techniques
  • Implementing behaviour management strategies consistently and calmly
  • Supporting academic engagement across a range of subjects
  • Building trusting relationships with young people
  • Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams and external agencies

Every day will be different, and you will play a vital role in helping students feel safe, understood and ready to learn.


Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in SEMH settings, youth work, residential care, PRU/alternative provision, or similar
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • Confidence in using de-escalation and restorative approaches
  • Resilience, patience and the ability to stay calm under pressure
  • A nurturing, trauma‑informed approach
  • A desire to make a positive impact on young people’s lives

Team Teach training is highly desirable but not essential – Teaching Personnel can support you in gaining this.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
