Are you passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated HLTA to support in a secondary SEMH school in the Bolton area. Pupils may present with a range of complex needs including anxiety disorders, ADHD, oppositional behaviours, attachment difficulties, low self-esteem, trauma-related behaviours, and difficulties with emotional regulation.

The Role: HLTA Responsibilities

As a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting both teaching staff and pupils. Responsibilities include:

• Delivering planned lessons and learning activities to small groups or whole classes in the teacher’s absence
• Supporting pupils with SEMH needs through tailored interventions and behaviour support strategies
• Creating a safe, nurturing and structured learning environment
• Assisting teachers with planning, preparation and assessment
• Leading targeted academic or pastoral interventions
• Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils to promote engagement and progress
• Working collaboratively with the SENCO, pastoral team and external professionals
• Supporting pupils with de-escalation and emotional regulation techniques

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should have:

• HLTA qualification or significant experience as an experienced TA/cover supervisor supporting challenging behaviours
• Experience working with SEMH pupils or within an alternative provision/PRU environment
• Strong behaviour management and a calm, resilient approach
• Ability to deliver planned learning to groups or whole classes
• A passion for supporting vulnerable young people
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Right to work in the UK
• Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check (or already on the update service)
