PE Cover Supervisor – SEMH Secondary Provision (Full-Time)

Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Our partner SEMH secondary school in the Wigan area is seeking a dedicated PE Cover Supervisor to join their supportive and highly specialist team.

This provision supports pupils with a range of SEMH needs, including anxiety, low self-esteem, attachment difficulties, trauma-related behaviours, and emotional dysregulation. Many students require a calm, consistent role model who can support them to engage positively in physical education and maintain healthy routines.


About the Role

As a PE Cover Supervisor, you will:

  • Deliver and supervise PE lessons in the absence of the class teacher.
  • Support pupils to engage safely and positively in physical activities.
  • Manage the classroom environment and promote positive behaviour strategies.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage participation and confidence.
  • Support students with varying SEMH needs through consistency, patience, and clear boundaries.
  • Work collaboratively with PE staff, behaviour mentors, and the wider pastoral team.
  • Assist in setting up equipment and ensuring safe practice in line with school policies.

Candidate Requirements

We are looking for individuals who are:

  • Experienced working with young people, ideally in a school, youth work, coaching or SEMH setting.
  • Confident in delivering or supervising secondary PE sessions across KS3–KS4.
  • Able to remain calm, resilient and consistent in challenging situations.
  • Understanding of the needs of students with SEMH and the importance of trauma-informed approaches.
  • Strong communicators who can build positive relationships quickly.
  • In possession of an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service, or willing to apply for one through Teaching Personnel.
  • Fully committed to working full-time, Monday to Friday.
