Science Technician Wanted

Join Our Dynamic School Team and Help Power Practical Learning

Are you passionate about hands-on work, enjoy keeping things running smoothly, and want to play a key role in supporting students’ learning? We’re looking for a dedicated Science Technician to join our vibrant department and help bring practical lessons to life.


What You’ll Be Doing

As our go-to person for all things technical in the science department, you’ll be at the heart of the action—ensuring our students and staff have everything they need for smooth, safe, and successful practical lessons.

Planning & Preparation

  • Prepare materials and equipment for engaging student practicals, including IT-based activities.

  • Assist in producing technical instructions and resources for staff and students.

  • Stay fully informed and compliant with all health and safety procedures related to tools, chemicals, and equipment.

Maintenance

  • Ensure science labs and prep rooms are clean, tidy, and fully equipped.

  • Maintain and clean benches, stools, tools, and equipment across the department.

  • Report any maintenance needs or faulty equipment.

Stock & Storage

  • Receive, check, and store all deliveries of science materials and equipment.

  • Monitor stock levels and the condition of equipment, ensuring everything is stored efficiently and safely.

Health & Safety

  • Carry out and log routine safety checks on equipment (daily, weekly, and termly).

  • Identify and report any risks, damages, or issues that could impact safety or learning.

  • Support the teaching team with risk assessments and maintain a safe working environment at all times.

  • Ensure all equipment complies with health and safety standards.

Admin & Organisation

  • Support with general departmental administration including photocopying, filing, and documentation.

  • Help manage stock control, invoices, receipts, and inventory checks.


What We’re Looking For

  • A practical, proactive problem-solver with great attention to detail

  • A team player who takes pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organised workspace

  • Someone comfortable handling scientific equipment, chemicals, and IT resources

  • Previous experience in a technician role or science-related environment is a plus—but full training will be provided

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
