Job description
Job Title: Support Manager
Location: Basingstoke, Hampshire
Salary: £28,598 – £31,022 per annum (full-time), term time only
Contract: Full time, permanent
About the Setting
This specialist provision offers short-term placements for pupils who are temporarily unable to remain in mainstream school due to significant social, emotional, mental health or behavioural needs. Based in Basingstoke, we provide a calm, structured environment that helps young people re-engage with learning and return smoothly to their main school or on to an appropriate next step.
Many of our pupils have complex social, emotional, communication or interaction needs and often arrive at a point where traditional classroom routines are no longer working for them. Our team works with care, clarity and consistency to stabilise pupils, build positive routines and prepare them for successful reintegration.
This role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced teaching assistant or school support professional looking to step into a leadership role, or for a teacher seeking a change of pace and focus.
Role Overview
As Support Manager, you will play a key part in the day-to-day running of the provision. You will work closely with the Team Leader to support behaviour strategies, maintain smooth communication across the team, and help ensure that the environment remains safe, structured and supportive.
This is a hands-on role where you will use your experience to guide staff, support pupils’ emotional and behavioural needs, and contribute to decisions that help pupils move forward positively in their education.
Key Responsibilities
-
Oversee the behaviour, engagement and wellbeing of pupils during their short-term placement.
-
Support the Team Leader in delivering tailored behavioural and therapeutic interventions.
-
Help maintain consistent routines, expectations and communication across the setting.
-
Liaise professionally with families, external agencies and school stakeholders.
-
Contribute to assessing pupil progress and planning reintegration or next steps.
-
Promote a safe, inclusive and purposeful learning environment.
-
Lead and mentor staff, modelling effective behaviour support and building team confidence.
Person Specification
We welcome applications from candidates who have:
-
Strong experience supporting young people with social, emotional or behavioural needs—experience gained as a teaching assistant or inclusion support is highly valued.
-
Some leadership, supervisory or mentoring experience, even informally within a school team.
-
Confident communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.
-
A calm, resilient and flexible approach, especially in challenging moments.
-
A commitment to safeguarding, positive behaviour practice and inclusive support for all pupils.
What We Offer
-
A meaningful role where your experience will have an immediate impact on young people who need stability and understanding.
-
A supportive, close-knit team that values collaboration and professional growth.
-
A well-resourced, easily accessible setting with parking and good transport links.
-
A dynamic environment focused on helping pupils rebuild confidence and transition successfully back into education.
