Job description

Salaried SEN Teacher Training Programme – Oxford

£23,000–£27,000 | January Start

Want to become a teacher and make a genuine difference to pupils with Special Educational Needs?

This two-year Salaried SEN Teacher Training Programme offers a supportive route into teaching, combining hands-on experience in a specialist SEN school in Oxford with fully funded teacher training.

You’ll earn a salary from day one while developing the practical skills, confidence and experience you need to become a qualified teacher.

You’ll spend both years within the same supportive school, giving you the chance to build strong relationships with pupils and staff, understand individual needs and become a valued part of the school community.

Year 1 | Build Your SEN Classroom Experience

During your first year, you’ll gain valuable experience working directly with pupils with a range of special educational needs and additional needs.

Working alongside experienced teachers and support staff, you’ll:

  • Support pupils with their learning, development and engagement
  • Help create a positive, inclusive and supportive classroom environment
  • Build strong and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Develop your classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Learn how lessons and activities can be adapted to meet individual needs
  • Support teachers with the delivery of lessons and classroom activities
  • Gain a real understanding of day-to-day life within an SEN school

Your first year is all about building your confidence and gaining practical experience before progressing into formal teacher training.

Year 2 | Train to Become an SEN Teacher

Once you’ve developed your classroom experience, you’ll progress into formal teacher training and begin taking on greater responsibility.

You’ll start planning and delivering your own lessons, developing your teaching style and learning how to adapt your approach to support the different needs of your pupils.

Throughout the year, you’ll receive ongoing mentoring and professional development while working towards your PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

What You’ll Receive

As part of the programme, you’ll benefit from:

  • £23,000–£27,000 annual salary
  • A salaried position from the beginning of the programme
  • Fully funded PGCE
  • The opportunity to achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Two years based within the same SEN school in Oxford
  • Hands-on experience working with pupils with additional needs
  • Dedicated mentoring and support from experienced education professionals
  • Ongoing professional development
  • A clear and supportive pathway into a career in SEN teaching

Who Are We Looking For?

We’re looking for graduates who are passionate about education and want to make a genuine difference to young people with additional needs.

You could be a recent graduate looking to begin your career, someone considering a career change, or already have experience working with children or young people.

You’ll need:

  • A bachelor’s degree in any subject
  • A genuine interest in SEN education and teaching
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A patient, positive and resilient approach
  • The ability to build strong relationships with pupils
  • A willingness to learn and develop
  • Commitment to completing the full two-year programme
