Salaried Teacher Training Programme – Sheffield

Thinking about becoming a teacher, but not quite ready to jump straight into teacher training?
This two-year Salaried Teacher Training Programme gives you the opportunity to experience what working in a school is really like, while earning a salary and building the skills you’ll need for a successful teaching career.
In your first year, you’ll join a Sheffield secondary school as a Cover Supervisor. You’ll supervise lessons, support pupils with their learning and work alongside experienced teachers, gradually building your confidence and classroom management skills.
Once you’ve gained that valuable experience, you’ll move into formal teacher training in your second year, where you’ll start planning and delivering your own lessons and work towards your PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Your Two-Year JourneyYear 1 | Experience School Life You'll join the school as a Cover Supervisor, giving you the chance to discover what it really means to work in education. You'll:
- Supervise classes and deliver pre-prepared lessons.
- Support pupils with their learning and encourage positive engagement.
- Develop effective classroom management techniques.
- Build relationships with pupils and staff.
- Gain an understanding of school policies, routines and expectations.
- Work alongside experienced teachers and support staff.
- Develop the confidence and skills needed for your next step into teaching.
This first year is designed to help you experience teaching before committing to formal teacher training.
Year 2 | Train to Become a Teacher Having gained valuable classroom experience, you'll progress into a trainee teacher role and begin your formal teacher training. You'll:
- Plan and deliver your own lessons.
- Develop your teaching style and classroom practice.
- Assess pupil progress and provide meaningful feedback.
- Work closely with an experienced mentor.
- Complete your PGCE.
- Work towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Prepare for your first position as a fully qualified teacher.

Who is it for?
We’re looking for graduates who are enthusiastic about education and keen to make a difference to young people. You might be a recent graduate, looking to change careers, or already have experience working with children or young people.
You’ll need a bachelor’s degree in any subject, strong communication skills, a positive and resilient attitude and a genuine commitment to becoming a teacher.
If you want to gain classroom experience before committing to formal teacher training, while earning a salary along the way, this could be the ideal opportunity for you.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
