A welcoming and inclusive mainstream secondary school in Darwen, Lancashire is seeking a Pupil Support Officer to join their pastoral support team from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning and thrive both academically and emotionally.
The role will initially be offered on a temporary basis through Teaching Personnel, with strong potential for the position to become permanent for the right candidate.
The Role
As a Pupil Support Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting students’ behaviour, attendance, wellbeing, and engagement with learning. You will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral leaders, and external professionals to provide targeted support to pupils who need it most.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis
- Promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
- Assisting with attendance and engagement initiatives
- Supporting pupils with additional needs and pastoral concerns
- Liaising with parents, carers, and external agencies where appropriate
- Helping to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive school environment
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is:
- Patient, resilient, and empathetic
- Experienced in working with children or young people (school-based experience desirable)
- Confident in managing behaviour and building positive relationships
- Committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare
- Keen to develop within a school setting, with an interest in long-term progression
Experience in education, youth work, pastoral support, or SEN support would be highly beneficial.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
