Job description

Teaching Personnel work with a number of pupil referral units in the Bolton area, who provide an alternative education to primary and secondary age students who suffer from mental health needs, challenging behaviour and associated learning disabilities.
About the opportunity
We're looking for psychology graduates who have a knowledge of mental health, behaviour patterns, counselling, psychoanalysis, psychology in education and all other relevant areas, to work alongside students in these schools and support them in their learning.
Obviously you can expect challenges in working with them, in terms of behaviour, emotional well-being and social interactions which is where you must be able to approach them calmly and respectfully, and help to advise and guide them to make the right choices for themselves and their education.
Some students may have associated issues such as drug and alcohol abuse, exposure to gangs and criminal activity, or disrupted home lives. It is important to understand that these students are in need of role models and require trusting relationships to be built with them.
In working alongside them, you'll support them in their core subjects and vocational classes, helping to break down the workload and manage behaviour, and encourage good practice in social skills and behaviour in the classroom. It's important to be motivating and inspiring to provide a supportive and enjoyable environment for these students to feel at ease within.
Additional information
Schools of this nature tend to provide in house training, however Teaching Personnel also offer opportunities for professional development and deliver courses regularly which can be accessed by all registered applicants.
These opportunities are available on a contract basis, which can cover anything from one term up to a full school year, and is great to build a strong CV.
With the nature of the work and the importance of continuity for the students, schools may offer the opportunity for permanent work.
Please be aware, for this role you MUST have a child workforce DBS which is registered to the update service. Teaching Personnel can advise on how to apply for one.
