Hours: Monday–Friday, 08:30–15:30

We're looking for Psychology students, Psychology graduates and candidates from related subjects to work as Behaviour & Learning Mentors in secondary schools across Cardiff.
You'll support pupils in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, helping them overcome barriers to learning, develop emotional resilience and build confidence.
This is more than a part-time job — it's an opportunity to develop practical experience that can support future postgraduate applications, graduate roles and careers within education, psychology and other helping professions.
What will you be doing?
As a Behaviour & Learning Mentor, you may:

Support pupils experiencing anxiety, low confidence or difficulties engaging with learning
-
Build positive, trusting relationships with young people
-
Provide consistent encouragement and act as a positive adult role model
-
Support pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour
-
Deliver targeted one-to-one and small-group interventions
-
Help pupils develop confidence, resilience and independence
-
Encourage positive choices and engagement with education
-
Work alongside teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams
-
Support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Additional Learning Needs
-
Help identify and reduce barriers to learning
-
Contribute to a safe, inclusive and supportive school environment

The experience you gain can be particularly valuable if you're considering future careers as a: Educational Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist, Counsellor or Psychotherapist, Youth Worker, Education or Behaviour Specialist
What we're looking for
You don't need years of experience. We're looking for people with the right attitude, communication skills and genuine interest in supporting young people.
You'll ideally be:

Studying towards, or recently graduated from, a Psychology degree or related subject

Interested in child and adolescent development, behaviour and wellbeing

Empathetic, patient and approachable
-
A confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills
-
Calm and resilient when dealing with challenging situations
-
Adaptable and able to work effectively as part of a team
-
Passionate about helping young people achieve positive outcomes
Previous experience working with children or young people is beneficial but not essential. Training, guidance and ongoing support will be provided.
Essential Requirements
To work in schools, you'll need to meet the relevant compliance requirements, including:

Enhanced DBS Certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one

Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)

Two recent professional or academic references

An up-to-date CV

Safeguarding training, which can be provided where required
