Job description

Are you ready for an exciting new opportunity? We are looking for a resilient, compassionate and qualified Maths teacher to work in one of our Pupil Referral Units in the Salford area. You would be working with children who have been excluded from or cannot access mainstream education due to behavioural, emotional and social challenges.

You will be responsible for delivering engaging and accessible maths lessons to small groups of secondary-aged pupils, many of whom have gaps in learning, low confidence, and complex needs. Your ability to build trust, remain calm under pressure, and adapt your teaching style will be key to success in this role.


Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver differentiated maths lessons that meet the diverse needs of learners.

Build strong, respectful relationships with students who may display challenging behaviour.

Use de-escalation strategies and trauma-informed approaches to manage behaviour effectively.

Work closely with support staff, pastoral teams, and external agencies to provide holistic support.

Track and report on student progress, adapting learning plans as needed.

Foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment where students feel valued.


The Ideal Candidate Will Have

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.

Experience working with students with SEMH needs or in alternative provision (desirable).

Strong classroom management and behaviour regulation skills.

A calm, empathetic, and patient approach to teaching.

A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable learners.
