Are you experienced in supporting adults or children with Special Needs? Are you looking for a new challenge?

Teaching Personnel are recruiting on behalf of a specialised Primary and Secondary School based in Portsmouth catering complex Special Educational Needs. This school provides complex educational and personal support for pupils who are working toward Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP).

Working with SEN children:

The school cater for pupils who are of Primary and Secondary age with a varied range of needs to include Autism, PMLD, Down's syndrome, Emotional and Social needs, and challenging behaviour.

You will be supporting a class Teacher alongside 2 or 3 other Ta's, while working with approximately 6 - 10 pupils, to implement each pupil's Educational Health care Plans and aid their development and learning.

The school hours are from 08:30 to 15:30 Monday to Friday. The staff are very supportive and friendly, and the school is welcoming of trial days, upon the completion of a vetting process.

About the work:

In this role successful candidates will be expected to provide emotional support, developing the well-being and social interaction of pupils with their peers and the wider community. This will involve candidates supporting the pupils on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis, supporting in their daily routines including some small aspects of personal care.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • A minimum of GCSE Maths and English (A-C)
  • Previous experience working with children or adults who have Special Needs
  • Have the flexibility to work in a variety of situations, with different ages
  • Be able to work on your own initiative, while supporting both the staff and pupils in the class
  • A relevant qualification within SEN would be beneficial
