Permanent Teaching Assistant

Teaching Personnel are recruiting on behalf of a school in Compton Dundon, Somerset (5 miles south of Glastonbury and 4 miles north of Somerton).

This newly registered school for pupils with additional needs are looking for a Teaching Assistant to join them on a permanent basis from January. This is a full time position.

The school caters for pupils between the ages of 6-14 with additional needs including Autism (ASD) and Social Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Their aim is to provide the pupils with access to a high quality of education, which is tailored to meet their specific needs. This is an exciting time for the school, its pupils and its staff as they are at the start of their journey.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Behaviour  management: Recognise when it is necessary to implement agreed de-escalation strategies to minimise risk of pupils behaviour becoming disruptive or dangerous

  • Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school

  • Work 1:1 with a specific pupil if required

  • Provide a safe, calm environment and well ordered environment for all pupils and staff, focused on safeguarding pupils and developing exemplary behaviour

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who has:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills both n working relationships with young pupils and in forming effective professional relationships with a wide range of contacts

  • The ability to deal with inappropriate behaviour in a calm and non-judgemental way following school guidance

  • Good numeracy and literacy skills

  • An understanding of classroom roles and responsibilities

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

It would be beneficial if applicants have a skill or specialism in ICT however this is not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
